Itsas Belarra french fishing vessel has fished 4000 kg of floating marine litter during 18-23 May 2018 from Bidart to Saint Jean de Luz. It has been the first floating litter fishing of the year and 35 big pack full of litter have been deployed to harbour.

This litter collection operation off the Basque coast is sponsored by Kosta Garbia. The action takes place every year between May 1st and the end of September.Fishermen of Itsas Belarra point at offshore currents and easterly winds as posible reason behind this extreme litter ocurrence.
As a curiosity, fishermen of Itsas Belarra also told us that the abundance of shore fish Balistes polylepsis increases when this massive litter events ocur.
