LEMA joins the 25th anniversary of the LIFE Program

The LIFE program commemorates its 25th anniversary in 2017. The Life LEMA team has joined to this celebration on May 12 and 13. The aim is to recognize the important role of this program in the field of European marine and coastal management and, particularly, in the area of ​​prevention and reduction of marine litter.

 

On Friday, May 12, “Facing the Global Challenge of Marine Litter”, the photographic exhibition that shows the different steps of the Life LEMA project in the Bay of Biscay and its partners, was inaugurated in the Impact Hub Donostia in Tabakalera (Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain). The opening was in charge of Félix Asensio, General Director of the Environment of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and several partners of the project.

On Saturday, May 13, at La Zurriola beach (Donostia-San Sebastián), a marine litter collection and characterization action was carried out within the framework of the International Volunteer Program Ocean Initiatives. The action unveiled the problem of marine litter and many volunteers and Life LEMA partners participated in the event. This activity took place in concomitance with the European Clean up! a call at European to face the challenge of litter.
