OSPAR Spring Campaigns

Spring is here, so it is time for the 2nd OSPAR campaign of 2019!

During the month of April, we have been rushing three different beaches to to pursue our monitoring of marine litter cleaning sessions. We have been in Mutriku, Zumaia and San Sebastian collecting debris from the ground while following the OSPAR protocol to classify the types and the amount of litter that reaches these coasts.

Of course we benefit from the incredible help of our volunteers, who join us every season and make possible the collection of data series through the years. The work does not end up with the collection of litter, but also consists in counting the items and listing them.

Thus, we make citizen science together with the help of our volunteers. We establish data series on these three beaches every season of the year and therefore emphasize the importance of collective action when it comes to fighting ocean pollution.
